USS S'Lara

USS S'Lara NCC-63424 is a Springfield-class Federation starship currently assigned to Fourth Fleet's Task Force 17.

The S’Lara is a venerable ship which has been in service for forty-two years. Tasked with scientific research, including exchanges in scientific development through diplomatic missions at the border of Federation space, the S’Lara has completed hundreds of intensive research missions and provided humanitarian aid to Federation colonies and allies. Under the command of Captain Farros Loshrian, the S’Lara continues to serve Task Force 17 as a research vessel that helps stabilise the territory that has been explored.

The S’Lara’s primary task is to follow up on the initial expeditions and exploration missions to provide research and support in newly explored territories. The S’Lara’s comfortable size, extensive research facilities and reasonable accommodations make the ship excellent for transporting civilian scientists or delegates to critical mission destinations. The S’Lara can operate on extended research missions without the need to quickly return to a starbase, but it lacks the offensive and defensive capabilities to endure an extended conflict.

On board the S’Lara things feel comfortably familiar. This ship has been in service for decades and has undergone multiple upgrades, leveraging the best options from each generation of technology. Beyond the extensive science labs, there are conference areas that can be used to host visiting scientific dignitaries, as well as recreational facilities to boost the morale of both the crew and passengers.

Crew of the S’Lara

• Captain Farros Loshrian is a charming and sociable male Efrosian. Something of an anomaly in the command of science vessels, Loshrian has a diplomatic background rather than a scientific one. Perceptive, intelligent, and politically savvy, very little gets past Captain Loshrian. He is an adept negotiator, a trained counsellor and a man said to be so calm under pressure that his crew considers him a rock they can lean upon, and he unsettles his opponents. Off duty, he is charming, humorous and supportive, easily winning the trust of his crew.
• Commander Saanvi Dosha is a Human female from Alpha Centauri with a background in xenobiology. Sharp, energetic and driven, she served on exploratory vessels as a science officer for a decade before moving to the S’Lara. Earning high marks for her leadership skills and ability to push her teams to achieve their goals, she was a natural fit for a command role. She is a good counterpoint to Captain Loshrian, explosive where he is calm, driven where he is stoic. Fortunately, she balances this with an exuberant and friendly personality, as well as good people skills. She’s excellent at supporting those under her and great at recognising effort and achievement. This makes her a fantastic partner for Captain Loshrian, and together the two maintain a high morale of their crew.

• The S’Lara is a Task Unit Asset, and any member of Task Force 17 can feature it in their stories.
• The S’Lara is currently on a long-term support mission, following up on the exploration of worlds and star systems just beyond the Federation’s border.
• The S’Lara would commonly be encountered in any recently explored systems doing follow-up scientific research, or hosting dignitaries on a scientific exchange-style mission.
• The S’Lara does not have strong offensive or defensive capabilities and would also be a good vessel in need of aid should it encounter armed antagonists.
• The S’Lara can be used to hold a scientific conference and could be supported with this by other ships.
• The S’Lara can be used like any other task unit asset, showing up to resupply or deliver officers, or mentioned off-screen by dealing with distant problems or discovering the initial plot hook that your ship is sent to deal with.
