USS Roseau NCC-86578 is a Parliament-class Federation starship currently assigned to Fourth Fleet's Task Force 47. Their primary mission is to undertake deep space logistics and supply operations for Fourth Fleet operations. A logistical centre and flying cache of resources, Roseau continues to serve with quiet pride as the metaphorical supply hub of Task Force 47's deep space efforts.
Namesake
Named for the capital city of the island of Dominica, in the Earth’s Caribbean Sea. A previous French & British colony, the inhabitants of Dominica gained independence in 1978 and continue a proud Creole tradition.
Mission Summary
Roseau's primary mission is to undertake deep space logistics and supply operations for Fourth Fleet operations. With a focus on developing and expanding Task Force 47’s logistics support in their field of operations, Roseau’s mission profiles are numerous and varied, ranging from deep space station & relay construction to large-scale orbital and colonial infrastructure projects.
Service History
Originally scheduled for launch in 2392, Roseau was launched slightly ahead of plan from Beta Antares to make room for vessels that needed repair and relocation after the surprise attack on Xavier Fleet Yards by the Sovereignty of Kahless. Roseau spent the first twelve months of service tightening her own nuts and bolts whilst being assigned across the Federation/Klingon border to support ongoing repairs and renovations to stations reclaimed from the Sovereignty towards the end of 2391.
The next decade saw vital but relatively unremarkable service, with Roseau spending much of its time travelling between core worlds, updating and replacing the vast network of comm relays and deep space buoys that facilitated the Federation’s subspace comm network.
In 2401, Roseau’s reputation as an uneventful assignment was shattered when the ship was assigned to the Thomar Expanse, where Task Force 47 was beginning their outward push. Whilst deploying a number of long-range sensor buoys, Roseau was attacked by a squadron of Tzenkethi frigates who saw the operation as a threat to their security. After several days of cat and mouse in a nearby asteroid belt, the skilful engineers of the ship managed to retrofit the remaining sensor buoys into a wide sensor-damping net, distracting the predators and allowing Roseau to escape.
Configuration and Design
The Roseau’s modifications provide it with enhanced warp and impulse drive systems, intended to improve its capability in towing vessels & stations much larger than itself. Coupled with a vast modular storage section, designed for quick reconfiguration and automated warehouse operations depending on the mission profile, Roseau holds parts and supplies for a huge number of missions, including colonisation efforts, evacuation, diplomatic efforts, or scientific outfitting. This area spans several decks and sections, and the vast cargo pods are filled with everything from relief supplies to building materials to foodstuffs, everything a deep space captain might need.
Roseau is also outfitted with large auxiliary battery arrays and a high-capacity Electro-Plasma System reservoir, essentially making the ship a mobile high-capacity power plant. This provides the opportunity to power disabled ships, run large-scale field operations, or deploy to outposts and bases, where it can provide emergency power supplies.
Located on the upper dorsal decks, directly connected to the torpedo launchers, is a modified launch bay and attached probe factory where work can be completed on a wide variety of probes and satellites.
Crew & Characters
Captain Sirok (102, Vulcan Male)
- A man who's served on the frontier for the better part of forty years in some capacity or another, from border patrol to colony support to starbase construction, Sirok is an old and reliable workhorse of a Vulcan who takes his vessel’s role in Task Force 47’s logistical train very seriously. No-nonsense but not harsh, he runs Rouseau like he runs his schedules- tight and steady.
- Sirok is a commander who looks out for his crew, even with his tight tolerances. While he doesn't necessarily take pride in Rouseau’s role, he sees to it that his crew does in order to make the ship and crew run smoothly and keep morale high. She's a proud ship, even with a humble captain.
- Said tight scheduling can often lead him to butt heads, delays in Rouseau’s overall mission being deemed less than ideal. Any deviation or change tends to invoke an argument, especially with engineers who overestimate how much time they need on a project. He runs a tight ship and doesn't like when things don't go his way.
Commander Song Kyung-Min (Human Female, 36)
- A dependable engineer and the life of the party, Song Kyung-Min serves double duty as Rouseau’s chief engineer and as overseer of the ship’s many engineering projects, particularly the ongoing automated deployment of probes, relays and buoys, her pride and joy. Bright and enthusiastic with a mind for problem-solving, she takes engineering challenges with aplomb and gusto.
- A hands-on, in-the-trenches sort of woman, both as an engineer and as a leader, Kyung-Min leads by example and puts herself to the grunt work of building and fixing things right alongside her crew. She will never order someone to do something she wouldn't do herself, and is the first to volunteer for dangerous, risky scenarios.
- This can be a double-edged sword, being so willing to jump into herself for the dirty and dangerous jobs, Kyung-Min often forgets she's important to have around. She gets stuck in sticky situations easily, which usually leads projects to stall until she returns, which leads to delays, which leads to her and Captain Sirok butting heads more times than either of them can count.
In Play
- Roseau is the reliable and hardworking heart of Task Force 47 and represents a vital part of the Fourth Fleet's expanding network of logistical support. With 47’s foothold in the Thomar Expanse established, Roseau finds the next chapter of her journey more hazardous than the first as she must venture out into unsecured territory to support the efforts of Starfleet.
- Out in the frontier regions, Roseau serves double duty as both a logistics hub and as one of the fleet’s flying resource caches. Members may find the ship deployed along the growing space lanes, providing a forward warehouse of resources and spare parts for a wide variety of systems that save captains from having to fly back to base for repairs.
- By no means a combat vessel, even the smallest of Task Force 47’s assets is arguably more useful in a fight than Roseau. As she begins to work in the frontier, members may find themselves called upon to escort or outright defend the ship from a myriad of hostile forces. With the classes’ already heavy shielding coupled with Roseau’s advanced EPS system, she can take her fair share of hits, which might also make her the perfect bait for the enterprising pirate hunter.
