USS Madrid

USS Madrid (NCC-92059) is a Centaur II-class Federation starship currently assigned to Fourth Fleet's Task Force 17.

Entering service in 2301, the Madrid is well over 100 years old and has a long history. Having served as a scout on Federation borders and during the Federation-Cardassian War, the ship has served as a workhorse in the fleet. Refit in 2382 to a Centaur II-class ship, the Madrid continues to serve in the fleet more than 100 years after her launch. Now classed as a science vessel, the ship is often engaged in the more tedious follow-up exploration efforts.

The Madrid’s core mission is to serve as the second string explorer to systems that do not require active diplomatic effort; usually uninhabited systems where thorough planetary surveys are needed. Due to Captain Mirea Troca’s extensive background in xenoarchaeology, the Madrid is often sent to planets or systems where support is required for on-the-ground xenoarchaeology teams or where the Madrid is leading the study of an ancient civilisation. A small xenoarchaeology team is typically on board the ship at all times, but they are swapped out with other teams depending on the ship's needs. She is often kept close to home due to her age or at least within range of other stronger Federation assets.

Being a ship over 100 years old that has undergone an extensive refit, she is a mix of old and new technology and aesthetics. Quarters are cramped, and most officers are two persons to a room, except for the senior staff and some higher-ranked officers. Recreational facilities are minimal, but the Alcalá lounge is relatively large and does its best to host a variety of activities to entertain the ship's crew.

Crew of the Madrid

  • Captain Mirea Troca is a half Betazoid/half Lanthanite female who is 263 years old. Captain Troca is a gifted archaeologist, having served for over 40 years in the Federation Science Corp and another 20 years in Starfleet. Born in the early 2100s, she has a deep well of experience to draw upon. Sticking to the outskirts of the Federation until she was nearly 200, Troca has navigated the difficult life that comes with being on the frontier, serving as expedition lead for over 30 archaeology teams. She is not naturally gifted in the arena of starship command, but she is adept at getting the job done and is known to be incredibly thorough, a trait she also demands of her officers. She is a quiet, reserved woman, but can bare her teeth if the situation calls for it. She considers command of the “Madrid” to be a comfortable, interesting posting and has little intention of giving it up until the ship itself is decommissioned.'
  • Commander Trevor Hyland is the ship’s executive officer. A human male in his early 40s, Hyland comes from a long line of Starfleet officers. He is considered overly cautious in emergency or tactical situations, but is skilled at quietly observing those around him and picking a situation apart with stunning detail. As a career Starfleet Officer who knows the handbook inside and out, Troca relies on him for enforcement of regulations and much of the general running of the ship. In exchange, she has taken him under her wing, and he is rarely absent from her side when she is hands-on during an expedition. While he has been offered a command of his own multiple times, he refuses to leave Troca’s command; he hopes that years of serving with someone like Troca will enable him to land a comfortable posting at Starfleet Sciences on Earth.
