USS Liberty (NCC-92913) is a Sagan-class light explorer commanded by Captain Elara Galcyon. Assigned to Sirius Squadron, she acts as flagship to the Liberty Science and Exploration Division, with the primary duty of leading and conducting deep space exploration beyond the Federation border.
Liberty is the squadron's foremost platform of exploration, routinely operating at range to expand Starfleet understanding of the wider galaxy. Her primary focus has been the continued discovery of the fallen territories of the former Romulan Star Empire in the Beta Quadrant, advancing into regions about which Starfleet has never known much - and are now shrouded in more mystery from much of the wider galaxy. Exploring the remnants of the fallen Empire, Liberty faces new challenges every day as she charts, surveys, and analyses the region. Obstacles are not limited to the scientific, but include diplomatic intrigues of engaging with former vassal worlds of the Empire, and tactical challenges as she navigates the remnants of Imperial military might - and those who would prey on their absence.
Her leadership role for the rest of the division is thus largely administrative; Captain Galcyon provides oversight for the USS Mercury and USS Tempest, which likewise usually deploy independently in pursuit of their diplomatic and A&A remits, respectively. When Sirius Squadron deploys together, Liberty and her division routinely serve in a reconnaissance role, scoping out regions and challenges ahead of the main unit's arrival.
