"The legendary place that the end of the map reveals is only legendary until someone proves it real."
    —Ship's dedication quote

The U.S.S. Callisto is a Luna-class light explorer assigned to Fourth Fleet's Task Force 72 as part of the Yamato Exploratory Cruiser Division.

Service History

Construction & Launch

Constructed as part of the initial cadre of Luna-class light explorers in 2379, the Callisto was launched alongside her sisters as part of Starfleet's re-commitment to a mission of exploration.

Post-Launch

Aldris Ceix's Command

Following Callisto's assignment to the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 17 under Captain Aldris Ceix, she was initially tasked with a mission of exploration. Her first mission saw her completing first contact proceedings with an advanced telepathic species, the Liraxans, that had a rich history of isolationism. Despite their efforts to broker a peaceful solutions to tensions on the planet, their efforts were ultimately rejected as the planet descended into war.

Following their mission to Liraxa IV, the ship intercepted an errant distress call from an Orion vessel. Upon investigating the ship they discovered the crew including a missing Starfleet doctor, and several ex-Borg prisoners all of whom were being harvested for their implants by the Orions. The surviving prisoners were rescuted and those responsible for their imprisonment and the abduction of the Starfleet doctor were caught and punished under Federation law.

The Callisto's final mission with Task Force 17 had her investigating the disappearance of a civilian research vessel and the U.S.S. Givens. Discovered adrift above the planet Asada, the crew of the ship eventually succumbed to the same fate as the crews of the other two vessels, choosing to beam down to the planet under the influence of a misguided telepathic being. The crews of all three vessels were eventually rescued by the crew of the U.S.S. Sirona. The crew of the Callisto were reassigned elsewhere and the ship was sent in for her first major mid-life refit.

Service Along the Tholian Border

Tavian Locke's Command

Following her service in Task Force 17, the Callisto was berthed at the Avalon Fleet Yards to undergo her first mid-life refit. She spent several months in the yards receiving upgraded systems. Upon her departure under Captain Tavian Locke she was assigned to patrol the regions along the Tholian Border flying under the flag of Task Force 72.

Configuration

For the article, see Luna-class light explorer.

The Callisto is a uprated Luna-class light explorer, having undergone a major refit in mid-2402. In addition to upgraded sensor suites her tactical systems have also received several upgrades, to allow her to better function in the Tholian border regions.

Main Bridge

Following her refitting in mid-2402 the Callisto's main bridge was redesigned and updated from its initial configuration. The command seats were lowered to sit ont he same level as the forward stations, and both the XO and advisory seats now retain their own consoles. An operations station and flight control station were added forward of the main command seats, replacing the larger single flight control station that was there previously. New science stations were added around the perimeter of the bridge, allowing for multi-faceted scientific operations to take place simultaneously. An operations station and flight control station were added forward of the main command seats, replacing the larger single flight control station that was there previously. An upgraded tactical station, with an arch resembling that found on a Galaxy-class vessel sits just aft and above of the command seats, and wraps around them. The Master Systems Display sits aft the aft of the bridge and can be reconfigured to serve as engineering or damage control stations should the need arise. Access to the bridge is served by three turbolifts, two forward in the port and starboard positions and one in the aft port position. Access tot he ships observation lounge and briefing room is provided aft starboard. The Captain's Ready Room is located forward port next to one of the turbolifts and a small head is located opposite.

Support Craft

The Callisto embarks a variety of support craft to support her in her missions.

The smallest of Callisto's support craft, Type 9 shuttles don't have the range or endurance of their larger brethren aboard the ship but still have the ability to carry out a variety of tasks. The Callisto carries four of these shuttles in inventory.

  • Artemis
  • Lycaon
  • Leda
  • Selene

Callisto carries six Type-11 shuttles in inventory. These shuttles are not as large or as adaptable as runabouts, but can be ready quicker if needed on short notice.

  • Spectra
  • Parallax
  • Zenith
  • Drifter
  • Surveyor
  • Sojourner

Callisto carries two Type-17 cargo shuttles in inventory.

  • Thanatos
  • Nyx

Callisto carries two Danube-class runabouts as her standard runabout complement. This class was selected over newer types for its modularity and capability for independent operations.

  • Prometheus
  • Daedalus

Like all Luna-class starships, the Callisto has an integrated captain's skiff for the CO's private use.

  • Bellatrix
