Helios Wayfinding Division is a division of the Fourth Fleet, operating out of Task Force 47 under the command of Captain Tanek.
Mission Summary
Helios Division is tasked with the ongoing wayfinding duties of the Task Force, with a focus on responding to emergent diplomatic incidents to secure bases of forward operations. As a result of it's work, ships in the division often find themselves operating indipendantly on the frontiers of Federation space, spending a great deal of time along the distant borders of foreign polities. Officer's assigned to the division's ships often come from backgrounds outside Starfleet's traditional form and a number of their ranking officers have experience with civilian groups and non-govermental bodies. Their non-traditional experiences coupled with several visiting officers from allied groups including the Romulan Republic, mean the division is often called on to undertake missions where having a wide variety of contacts is beneficial.
Most recently the division has been deployed at opposite ends of Federation space in the Thomar Expanse and in the largely unexplored Beta Quadrant rim, walking the fine line between the Klingon Empire and the Gorn Hegemony. In both locations they work to secure the precariously narrow path outward from Federation territory to prepare the way for longer deep space missions from their sibling Task Forces.
