The USS K’Ehleyr is a Excelsior II-class heavy cruiser that currently serves in the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 72.
Named after a notable Federation ambassador to the Klingon Empire, the K’Ehleyr has played host to numerous trade negotiations, peace summits, and other matters of interstellar importance. It is home-ported at Starbase 72 and provides the Task Force 72 with considerable utility as a capable all - rounder 'generalist' cruiser, able to fulfil virtually any mission profile.
Design & Layout
Bridge - Deck 1
Situated on Deck 1, the bridge of the K’Ehleyr conforms to the functional aesthetic of the 25th-century school of Starfleet design. Clean lines, dynamic lighting and efficient layout focus attention to holodisplays and more traditional LCARS. The CO is seated in the Command Chair on a raised dais, with the Engineering MSD behind and stations for Helm and Tactical immediately fore. To port are the Science stations and to Starboard the various Ops, Engineering and Comms stations. There is a holodisplay mounted in the plinth directly in front of the CO and 4 x additional holodisplays mounted in the bridge rails serve the crew as configurable standing workstations. Access to the captain's ready room and the ship's dedication plaque is fore & starboard and the ships conference rooms to fore & port. Access to the turbolifts is aft of the bridge on either beam.
Master Systems Display
The Master Systems Display, or MSD, is located on the bridge, in the rear section of control consoles, directly behind the captain's command chair. This dedicated station allows any officer to get an abstract picture of the ship and any problems that may arise. Its attached console allows certain situations to be dealt with right in front of the MSD without further intervention. This console is usually where a duty engineering officer is stationed, adjacent to the bridge engineering console, during Alert. The MSD generates a constant visual "Damage Report" and is technically part of the bridge engineering console. The MSD generally displays a "cutaway" view of the side of the spacecraft and shows locations of primary and secondary systems.
Tactical Systems
Compared to the original Excelsior - class starship, from which she was upgraded - the K’Ehleyr represents a significant 'up gunning' from its 23rd Century progenitor. In addition to Type-XII phaser arrays - deployed along two large dorsal and two ventral arrays on the saucer section, two dorsal and two arrays on the engineering section, and a further two aft phaser arrays, the Excelsior II-class Heavy Cruiser complements this loadout with six burst-fire torpedo launchers, four forward and two aft. This ordinance is more than a match for the type of opponents envisioned by Starfleet, that the K’Ehleyr is likely to encounter during her patrol & peacekeeping duties. The addition of Regenerative - Shielding and sections of ablative armor protecting additional vital areas of her spaceframe - all combine to field a vessel that is more than capable of independent action or to support a Flag Officer as the flagship at the centre of a medium - sized fleet deployment.
History
The K'Ehleyr was launched from Avalon Fleet Yards in 2393 under the command of Captain Karrik. After a short shake-down cruise, the ship was assigned to diplomatic operations, being a frequent carrier of ambassadors and flag officers.
Task Force 72 Flagship (2399 to 2402)
Following the assignment of Task Force 72 to conduct diplomatic operations across the galaxy, the K'Ehleyr was assigned as the task force's flagship. its first assignment under this new flag was to transport Rear Admiral Thomas Belvedere to Klingon space, to negotiate with the House of Lorkoth to intercede in the Archanis Campaign against the Hunters of D'Ghor. The ship then participated in the defense of the Archanis Sector.
In 2402 the K'Ehleyr passed on the mantle of Task Force Flagship to the USS Anthemius and continues to support Task Force operations in missions of border control and fleet - asset coordination.
In - Play
- The K'Ehleyr is a Task Force asset, and any member and writers in Task Force 72 may feature it in their stories.
- The K'Ehleyr , able to be deployed rapidly to almost any point in Federation Space, is an ideal asset to summon for assistance and support in your storytelling.
- The K'Ehleyr can be cited as a vessel deployed to support your own command or can be deployed to another location to fulfill a function to support your mission.
- The K'Ehleyr is a ‘Generalist’ – type Cruiser, meaning that it can provide a wide range of support to your fiction. She is relatively fast, maneuverable, well-armed and well shielded, making her an excellent choice for tactical missions. In addition, she has a flag bridge and is more than capable hosting a Flag - officer and coordinating medium - level fleet activities. Rounding up with generous holds and respectable medical facilities, the K'Ehleyr is a sensible choice to provide engineering support or humanitarian aid missions in hostile spheres of operations.
