The USS Ganymede (NCC-80107) is a Federation Luna-class light explorer assigned to Starfleet’s Fourth Fleet. As part of Arcturus Wayfinding Squadron, Ganymede is a specialized first contact vessel. Launched in the early 2380s, Ganymede was present at the events of Frontier Day 2401 and recently completed a full-overhaul and mid-life refit at Avalon Fleet Yards to remove equipment related to Fleet Formation Mode.

Namesake & Lineage

Like most Luna-class starships, Ganymede is named after a moon in the Sol system: in this case, Ganymede, the largest moon of Jupiter. In turn, that moon is named after the Greek mythological figure, Ganymede, a prince of Troy. The most beautiful youth in all the world, Ganymede was raised to Mount Olympus by Zeus as his lover and cup-bearer and was granted eternal beauty and life. The current USS Ganymede is the second Federation starship to bear the name[1], having been built from the frame of the Excelsior-class USS Ganymede, which was heavily damaged during the Dominion War.
