Astute Light Cruiser Division was a division of Fourth Fleet operating under Task Force 72 under the command of Captain Monique McDowell.

Deployed along the former Demilitarized Zone, the Astute Light Cruiser Division supports the mission of Task Force 72 through the provision of Rapid Response for priority Engineering & Humanitarian Response frontier - missions and the conduct of Forward Reconnaissance & scouting deployments beyond the Federation's borders.

Formed in the wake of the Nightfall Incursion into the Alpha & Beta Quadrants by the forces of the Vaadwaur Supremacy, Task Force 72 assigned the Echelon – class Light Cruiser, USS Astute to head up a Rapid Reaction Division along with the Duderstadt – class Fast Cruiser, USS Speedwell.

Together the deployment of both vessels enables Fourth Fleet to maintain patrol duties along the former DMZ and aid in the recovery operations to the many worlds devastated by the Vaadwaur invaders via the USS Astute, whilst the far - ranging USS Speedwell seeks out those in need and extends the Federation's gaze beyond its fractured borders, as Starfleet seeks to heal the lasting wounds of conflict.

The division was destablished in 2402 following a reorganisation of assets.
